COVID 19: SHOULD I GO TO THE GYM

By Noelle Walker at New Fitness Personal Training

We have been dealing with Covid 19 for over two years now. We thought the Delta variant was going to be the final and last variant , then Omicron hit. We had to go into lockdown, again. No more gyms, no more  anything. Isolation yet again. Now that we are slowly opening up again, you may be wondering if it’s safe to go back to the gym. I will illustrate the reasons you should be going back to the gym and why it’s absolutely crucial you go back.

OMICRON VARIANT

Let’s talk about what we’re dealing with first in this new phase of Covid-19. In contrast to the Delta variant which was highly transmissible and more deadly, Omicron is even more transmissible but good news it’s not anywhere near as deadly. The data on this is still compiling but so far that is the case.

WHY YOU SHOULD GO TO THE GYM

So now that we have some information regarding the new variant. We need to decide the risks of going back to the gym. We know it is more transmissible and therefore the chances of getting it are higher, but we also know the symptoms are less deadly and that vaccines do absolutely work on the new variant especially if you the have the Booster. There is also data suggesting that Omicron could wipe out the Delta Variant, which is good news since the Delta variant is more deadly.

But what about you, the individual? Factually speaking, gyms are very diligent about screening for Vaccines, in that they will not allow anyone without Vaccines through their doors, which is good news for you because we know Vaccines do indeed work on the new Covid 19 variant. This dramatically decreases your chances of contracting Covid.

HEALTH AND THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

So how do we increase the immune system? This is an important factor especially when it relates to the new Covid 19 variant. Perhaps you have heard of people contracting the disease landing in hospitals and ICU. The data suggests this is because those individuals who are at most risk for this happening are people who are not vaccinated, have  compromised immune systems or people who don’t have very good immune systems and aren’t that healthy. And how do we increase our own natural immunity? By working out of course and eating healthy. But exercising has the most impact on our immune systems. If you exercise moderately for example three times a week, you increase your immune system.

This is crucial information when it comes to deciding whether to go to the gym.

THE CHANCES OF YOU GETTING COVID 19 AND DEADLY SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH IT AT THE GYM

From what we can gather from the data, Vaccines work on the Omicron variant, not only that increased immune systems help prevent major symptoms of the new variant. Since gyms are diligent about preventing anyone from entering their facilities without full Vaccines and working out increases your own natural immune systems, then we can conclude that it is absolutely safe to go back to the gym and I would even say that it is important you do so to prevent major symptoms and hospitalization, if you do contract it.

In other words, go back to the gym!
